Sonoco ThermoSafe, a specialist in temperature-controlled packaging, has introduced innovative temperature-controlled container designs that have significantly enhanced clinical trials and pharmaceutical shipments across the Asia Pacific region.
With countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, and India being prominent players in sourcing pharmaceutical ingredients for drug development and manufacturing, the demand for clinical trials has been steadily rising in the region.
Sonoco ThermoSafe proudly presents its Pegasus model, the first-ever FAA and EASA-approved advanced passive bulk temperature-controlled container. This cutting-edge container can maintain temperature control for payloads ranging from 2 °C to 8 °C, offering real-time tracking and temperature monitoring, all while operating autonomously for up to 300 hours (equivalent to 13 days).
In the vast expanse of the Asia Pacific region, airfreight plays a pivotal role in ensuring timely pharmaceutical shipments due to the significant distances to other major markets, as explained by Sonoco ThermoSafe.
Federico Lupp, Director of Business Development for EMEA and APAC in Sonoco ThermoSafe’s Bulk Rental Group, emphasized, “The Pegasus ULD is a unique temperature control container (TCC) that guarantees pharmaceutical shipments arrive in the desired temperature range and specifications.”
Miguel Rodriguez, Head of Cargo Products at Qatar Airways Cargo, concurred, stating, “In collaboration with our partner, Bolloré Logistics, the Pegasus ULD has proven its effectiveness in maintaining cargo at the required temperatures.”
Brice Bellin, Head of Healthcare and Life Sciences in Europe at Bolloré Logistics, added, “Managing temperature-sensitive healthcare shipments requires the orchestration of numerous supply chain stakeholders. The robust packaging, such as the Pegasus ULD, is a crucial element in ensuring the success of high-value shipments. We are pleased to have collaborated on this project in the Asia Pacific region.”
Pegasus boasts approximately 15 airline customers, including major carriers like Air Canada, American Airlines, Cargolux, Cathay, Delta, Emirates, Korean Air, LATAM, Qatar Airways, Saudia, Singapore Airlines, Swiss, Turkish, and United, with expectations of adding more in the near future. The company operates service centers in strategic locations, such as Chicago O’Hare, New York JFK, Miami, Dallas, Los Angeles, Schiphol, London Heathrow, Dubai, Incheon, and Hong Kong, and plans to open more in 2024.
