In a Federal Register notice published on August 19, 2026, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced enhanced enforcement efforts, beginning September 18, 2026, to verify the accuracy of Importer of Record (IOR) information maintained on CBP Form 5106. Importers should take this opportunity to confirm that the information CBP has on file is complete, accurate, and up to date. Incorrect or incomplete information may result in CBP immediately voiding an IOR number, which would prevent the importer from using that number to enter merchandise into the United States.
So, what should you check? Make sure the physical address on file is the actual location associated with your company, not the address of your customs broker, freight forwarder, registered agent, P.O. box, business service center, or another party. Your contact person email address and phone number must also be valid and belong directly to your company. If any of this information has recently changed or is incorrect, now is the time to review and update your CBP Form 5106.
