FedEx Expands International Service: FedEx has broadened its FedEx International Connect Plus service, enabling Chinese e-commerce merchants to access markets in the U.S. and Europe, capitalizing on the increasing demand for cross-border shipping. This service, which was previously limited to Asia-Pacific regions, typically delivers in two to three business days and is tailored for lightweight, less time-sensitive packages.
Meeting Global Demand: “As cross-border e-commerce in China continues to surge, more local e-tailers are looking to expand globally,” stated Poh-Yian Koh, SVP of FedEx and President of FedEx China, in a press release. The U.S. and Europe remain key markets for these exports.
FedEx is ramping up its shipping solutions from China, responding to a growing appetite for Chinese-made products among global online shoppers. China’s online retail sales saw nearly a 10% increase in the first half of 2024, leading to a strain on air freight capacity and rising shipping costs.
The demand for air cargo services from Asia has surpassed FedEx’s expectations. Brie Carere, EVP and Chief Customer Officer at FedEx, highlighted during a June earnings call that they expect this growth to continue, fueled by e-commerce and low inventory levels.
UPS is also benefiting from the booming cross-border e-commerce activity from Asia. Brian Dykes, CFO of UPS, reported a more than 20% increase in export volume from China to the U.S. in Q2 2024, marking the third consecutive quarter of growth on this highly profitable trade route.
In this competitive cross-border e-commerce environment, FedEx is positioning its International Connect Plus service as a cost-effective shipping solution for merchants, featuring a straightforward rate structure with no residential surcharges and easy integration options.
