CBP Implements New Verification Step for ACE Portal ACH Refund Updates Starting Oct. 10

Beginning October 10, 2026, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is rolling out an enhanced security measure within the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) Portal. Importers updating their Automated Clearinghouse (ACH) refund banking details will now be required to complete an email or SMS verification step before changes can be finalized.

Key Changes for Importers

  • Security Token Required: When an authorized user attempts to add or edit ACH refund information in an importer sub-account, CBP will issue a one-time security token via email (with the option to receive it via SMS). The update cannot be completed without verifying this token.

  • Account Alerts: Other authorized users tied to the importer sub-account can opt into email or text alerts whenever changes are made to ACH refund records, ensuring immediate visibility into banking adjustments.

  • Expanded Security Protocols: This enhancement builds on CBP’s recent rollout of SMS login authentication, strengthening protections against fraudulent modifications to duty and tariff refund deposits.

Next Steps & Resources

CBP will release an updated version of its training guide, ACE Portal: ACH Bank Information for Electronic Refunds, containing step-by-step instructions on managing ACH details and verification preferences.

For technical inquiries regarding your account settings or setup, users may contact CBP directly at [email protected], or reach out to the Sobel Network Shipping Co., Inc. team for assistance with your ACE account administration and compliance management.
